@206streetfilms Our building colonial style? wtf man? Thanks to our buildings the deads are less than 1000 people. And the most of the people death died due the tsunami, so, don’t talk about something you don’t know.

  3. lunaix says:

What on earth are you talking about!??
ppl whats up with all these stereotypes n primitive thinking?
For your information Chile’s is one of the most prepared countries to face earthquakes in the world! COLONIAL STYLE WTF? Do you think people down there live among horses and sombreros?? It’s almost racist..
Unlike us in EU, we know that Santiago resisted one of the biggest shocks registered by man, with only a few buildings down!! it’s an amazing architectural achievement.. Please read a book.

I Agreed with Locotae, i’m Chilean and i also know that all the big buildings are made to resist big earthquakes, but this earthquake can’t be supported by Chile and California together.
And that’s why we don’t have so many deads like Haiti.

  6. Locotae says:

Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a big destruction and a big tragedy, but could have been worst, if we hadn’t had experience in quakes

  7. Locotae says:

Sorry, I’m Chilean, and I know what I’m talking about, after the 1960 earthquake in Valdivia, a law was made therefor every construction should be made resistant to earthquakes, where I live some dishes fell over but the whole neighbourhood is intact, no electricity, and no water, but the houses are undamaged, it was 7.0 , all the damage was in the epicenter and the very close surroundings (8.8) ’cause nothing can resist that.

  8. 206streetfilms says:

Don’t get me wrong concrete homes are great in a hurricane , but not engineered for earthquakes.

  9. 206streetfilms says:

@Locotae Actually they are not. There buildings just like all of south america are colonial style. They where not engineered for earthquakes such as California. In California the high risers are built on springs which sway the building. The buildings are also made with precast pieces that have joints to help them give a little. In south america they have built their buildings on normal foundations not to mention are out of date. The houses are also made of complete concrete which crack and fall.

  10. eclipse848 says:

    there are like 1000 deads..

sorry im chilean , i’m still scared !

  11. Locotae says:

That’s cause Chile is better prepared for seismic activity, so their buildings are made to resist them, that’s the difference with Haiti, anyways 8.8 es too strong for the buildings to resist, there’s not material strong enough to resist that

  16. 206streetfilms says:

Actually not all the news is in yet. They have only found 120 dead. Remember it was an 8.8 which was much stronger then Haiti’s at 7.0. You might not think its much until you have been in one. In California when I lived there we had a lot of them especially the tremors.
