Although these are pretty spectacular images and footage, it appears to be a fairly insignificant eruption compared to that of the Heimaey eruption in the Vestmann Island in January 1973. This eruption was more widely publicised for the ash cloud that blew across North Western Europe and disrupted air travel for over a month.
