Oh man, I love George. Nobody can make me laugh as hard as he could. He was a genius.
Existential Nihilism ftw.
this dude was a genius! R.I.P George Carlin.
…for a better world, RELIGION FREE!!!
If this was directed to me i have no idea what you mean.
its acknowledging that he/it transcends all of creation as the creator and i dare not define its limits.
He sure didn’t start any religions, nor did he need a man to write down anything for him.
“I am an Angel, but my name is Satan”
“I am a centerist but I prefer to be over opienated”
Ironically the bible says not to swear anything to God.
glad i got to see him live once…
9:02 -> Carlin’s opinion here is an (unconscious) endorsement of the violent coercion he decries earlier
I believe that a more sound value system would support a certain degree of gov’t control – i.e. not too little and not too much. Finding the right balance is the hard part, and it’s why socities must wake up in the morning and work and think, rather than jump to easy conclusions that one way or another pave the way to totalitarianism.
“Everytime you open your mouth you’re insulting God!
Keep that in mind! ”
and you certainly should say that to yourself in the mirror every morning.
what the bloody hell are you talking about. I am an atheist, which means one thing only…i dont believe in a god or any religion because i simply dont see any reason too. But thats it. I dont sit arounmd all day “thinking” about atheism. I have a life, i go to work, i go to school, i go snowboarding, i socialize, etc. I concentrate on life itself, not being an atheist.
@guasto47 Agnostic means you think their is a god but do not believe in what it represents. Believing in god but not being religious.
It really brings it home about all this god shit when Carlin forces it into perspective for you. It kinda reminds you of all this ritual ‘bang this drum while patting your head and rubbing your stomach’ shit from ye olde yesteryear… why the fuck would a god give a FLYING FUCK about that?
Oh that’s right… it fuckin’ BULLSHIT ;D
As for the Law, I do not agree with them some of the times. I respect them so I don’t got to prison, but I will not “obey” them. I don’t really look at it as Anarchy, some of the rules are okay, but fuck they can be changed a bit.
Especially in extenuating circumstances. Look at war, rights are all fine and dandy until a war breaks out and suddenly it’s acceptable to “bend the rules” a bit. “Torture? Nah, these aren’t enemy combatants, they’re terrorists and so aren’t held to the same standards the Geneva convention lays out.” Always seemed a bit selective to me.
I know about those rights as well, but I am saying that our government can take away your rights anytime they want to.
Well, ignoring whether they’re absolute or not…miranda does include more than to remain silent…IF I remember (I’m Canadian so American Miranda rights are different) the arrestee has the right to know what they’re being arrested for, to remain silent (anything they do say can and will be used against them), the right to an attorney & have him present in questioning and finally, that if they can’t afford one another will be appointed to them. I THINK that’s all of ‘em
how about “nothing exists unless it is proven or we can see it in front of us”.
There are no rights. Why do you think when you are arrested, they give you no rights, but the “Right to Remain Silent”?
When I think of the human race. I think. ( it could have been good )
@walkman123456789 Ya…fuck everyone else…unlimited rights!!!
It’s become WAY complex these days…I’m an atheist but there’s soft atheism, hard atheism, implicit atheism, explicit atheism and it’s the same with frigging agnosticism. A Hard Agnostic apparently is one who would argue “the existence of god is fundamentally unknowable, we could never answer that” where a Soft Agnostic would be more in the realm of “I simply don’t know myself, it may be knowable but I don’t know”…I can’t even remember what implicit and explicit agnosticism is anymore.
Wow, the true meaning of agnostic has really been skewed over the years. If someone asks you if you believe in god and your answer is anything but “yes”, you are an atheist. Agnosticism is only a subset of atheism.
